Plastic grommets used in metal posts to isolate the stainless steel wire rope from the post hole, especially necessary in aluminum posts where contact between the two dissimilar metals could otherwise set up electrolysis or in a bare steel hole that may otherwise transfer rust residue to the wire. If your posts are painted or powder coated after drilling the cable holes isolation may not be necessary.
Can also be used as a purely cosmetic feature in steel or stainless steel posts. Made for a 7/16″ hole the I.D. is just over 1/4″ so that a 1/4″ threaded terminal will fit through it. This is key in case you ever need or want to unlace all your cables. Not suitable for wood posts, they are designed to “click” into hollow metal posts.
